World Food Moscow took place on 24-27 September. Russia has a share in SA’s current 40% fruit exports destined for the EU & Russian market.
China Fruit and Vegetable Fair 2019
The China Fruit and Vegetable Fair took place 9-10 September. It was once again well attended, with various networking opportunities for our industry. Fruit SA was a proud gold sponsor at the opening ceremony.
Asia Fruit Logistica 2019
In line with Fruit SA’s strategy to increase share of the Asian market, industry representatives attended Asia Fruit Logistica on 4-6 September 2019. The SA National Pavillion drew considerable interest, which confirms the Asian appetite for SA’s fruit.
Budget Vote Speech 2019 & signing of MoU
On 16 July 2019 fruit industry representatives attended Minister Thoko Didiza’s maiden Budget Vote Speech, after which they also attended the cocktail event sponsored by the industry. They were (pictured, l-r): Lukhanyo Nkombisa (GM: CGA Grower Development Company), Konanani Liphadzi (CEO: Fruit SA), Vangile Titi-Msumza (Vice Chairperson: Fruit SA board) and Mono Mashaba (Specialist Consultant: Market Development).
The month of June saw the signing of an MoU to formalise an agreement between Dutch consortium, The Flying Swans Group, Transnet and Fruit SA, to strengthen logistical ties between the two countries.
Minister’s Service Delivery Forum
On 16 January 2019, Fruit SA hosted the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, for his schedule Service Delivery Forum. This minister’s visit to the industry was a first and, therefore, a significant step for Fruit SA towards strengthened ties with government. Minister Zokwana was also treated to a walkabout at Two-A-Day farm in Grabouw, where he and his delegation witnessed first-hand the packing process of apples, as well as the quality housing that farm workers enjoy.
